Policies for Specific Areas
Cardio deck
- No children under the age of 18 permitted.
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker.
- Equipment may not be reserved in advance.
- Equipment must be used for its intended purpose.
- 30 minute time limit on equipment during peak hours.
- Please clean and return all equipment after use.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
Climbing wall
- Every person entering the climbing area must check in at the desk with current ID card/keytag and must have completed and signed the waiver. Youth age 17 & under must have parent/legal guardian consent. All climbers must be in compliance with facility membership or guest policies.
- Climbers must pass a Belay Skills Check or attend and pass an Orientation & Belay Certification class before engaging in top rope climbing on the wall.
- Belay Skills Checks must be renewed one year from original certification.
- Climbers must be at least 16 years of age and certified to belay in order to be allowed to belay. Youth ages 5-13 may climb only during designated family hours and must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Youth must be able to fit into a harness to climb on the wall.
- Roped climbing is only allowed during open and staffed facility hours.
- Climbing is not allowed above the top rope anchors and is limited to climbing surfaces only.
- A figure-8 follow through knot with appropriate tail length is the only climbing knot allowed and it must be tied directly into the harness at the appropriate attachment point.
- Belayers must stand while belaying and must use only the endorsed belay method. (PBUS)
- No food or beverages allowed on the climbing floor or bouldering pad surface.
- Advanced instruction is only to be performed by KSU Climbing Staff.
- Open wounds and/or blood must be covered
- Respect your fellow climbers. Take turns on top ropes and respect the use of wall space per each rope.
- Climbing equipment must be used per the manufacturer’s instructions and approved by the UIAA or CE.
- KSU Climbing Facility ropes are the only ropes allowed for use. Ropes for lead climbing are available upon request for climbers who are approved to both climb and lead belay.
- Belay devices must be attached to the harness by means of a locking carabiner.
- Personal climbing equipment may be used upon approval by the KSU Climbing Staff.
- Chalk may only be used in a chalk ball in a chalk bag. (i.e. no loose chalk)
- Climbers must wear closed toed athletic shoes while on the climbing wall or boulder. Footwear with a bottom sole must always be worn on the climbing floor. (i.e. no bare feet)
- Shirts must be worn at all times.
- Socks must be worn at all times with rental shoes.
- No large or dangly jewelry permitted while climbing. It is highly recommended to climb without rings.
- No topping out (No climbing on top of the Boulder).
- When bouldering on the wall, hands must not go higher than the bottom row of quickdraws.
- Using a spotter while bouldering is highly recommended.
Combatives room
- No patrons under the age of 18 permitted.
- Appropriate athletic clothing must be worn.
- Only water permitted.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker.
- Equipment may not be reserved in advance.
- No dumbbells or weight plates permitted.
- Sparring and grappling are prohibited.
- Martial arts equipment is prohibited.
- Equipment must be used for its intended purpose.
- Mats shall not be rearranged or removed without permission.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
- All equipment must stay in the combatives room.
- Please clean and return all equipment after use.
Cycle studio
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes (five finger shoes are not allowed) must be worn.
- Group Fitness Studios will be locked during non-group fitness times.
- A valid K-State student ID or Keytag is required to attend a class.
- Arrive Early. Patrons arriving 10 minutes past the scheduled start time will be not be allowed entrance.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Food is prohibited.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker or cubbie.
- Only Rec Services staff is permitted to operate audio equipment and unlock equipment storage.
- No patrons under the age of 18 permitted.
- Do not touch mirrors.
- All equipment must stay in group fitness rooms.
- Please clean and return all equipment after use.
- There must be two participants present to conduct a class.
- Please contact Recreational Services staff should an injury or incident occur.
- Changing bike pedals for clips is prohibited.
- Bikes are available on a first come first serve basis; Equipment may not be reserved in advance.
- Workout towels and water bottles are mandatory in the Cycling Studio. Towels can be checked out in the service area.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
Group fitness
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Group Fitness Studios will be locked during non-group fitness times.
- A valid K-State student ID or Keytag is required to attend a class.

- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Food is prohibited.

- Courts will be set up according to priority use schedule.
- There will be no organized activities except those sponsored/approved by Recreational Services.
- All setup equipment must be issued or approved by Rec Services Staff.
- Please refer to Priority Use Schedule for daily activities.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker.
- Sports equipment can only be set up and broken down by Rec Services Staff.
- Appropriate athletic clothing must be worn and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Only water permitted.
- Play is restricted to inside the dasher boards; no play in hallways.
- Skates are not permitted in hallways.
- Dunking and/or hanging on basketball rims are prohibited.
- Helmets and pads are recommended for skating.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
Mind/body studio
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Group Fitness Studios will be locked during non-group fitness times.
- Arrive Early. Patrons arriving 10 minutes past the scheduled start time will be not be allowed entrance.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Food is prohibited.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker or cubbie.
- Only Rec Services staff is permitted to operate audio equipment and unlock equipment storage.
- No patrons under the age of 18 permitted.
- Do not touch mirrors.
- All equipment must stay in group fitness rooms.
- Please clean and return all equipment after use.
- Personal mats are permitted and encouraged.
- Please sanitize mats at the conclusion of class and return to designated storage.
- There must be two participants present to conduct a class.
- Please do not make loud noises as to interrupt or distract those around you.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
- Please contact Recreational Services staff should an injury or incident occur.
Performance Zones
- No children under the age of 18 permitted.
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker.
- Equipment may not be reserved in advance.
- Do not drop equipment.
- Equipment must be used for its intended purpose.
- Exercise balls must be thrown in designated areas only.
- Please clean and return all equipment after use.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
- Allow others to work in between sets.
- All equipment must stay in the weight room; do not take in the hallway.
Personal training studio
- No one will be permitted into the Personal Training Studio unless working with a Rec Services personal trainer.
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Studio will be locked when trainers are not present.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Food is prohibited.
- No patrons under the age of 18 permitted.
- Do not touch mirrors.
- All equipment must stay in PT studio.
- All equipment will be cleaned and appropriately stored after use.
- Private training/instruction is strictly prohibited.
- Please contact Recreational Services staff should an injury or incident occur.
Weight room
- No patrons under the age of 18 permitted.
- Appropriate athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn.
- Personal items must be stored in a locker.
- Equipment may not be reserved in advance.
- Collars are required on all bars.
- Do not drop equipment.
- Equipment must be used for its intended purpose.
- Water must be in a sealable container; other drinks are not allowed.
- Private instruction is strictly prohibited.
- Allow others to work in between sets.
- All equipment must stay in the weight room.Please clean and return all equipment after use.
