Director's Notes

Welcome to a new year at Kansas State University and Recreational Services. This year brings many new and exciting programs, facilities, and personnel to the Rec Services family!

We have three new professional staff members for this year.

Melissa Haug will be our new Fitness Director. She is a K-State graduate and was a student employee with our department. Melissa has many new programs planned in fitness, personal training, and nutrition.
Thomas Deus is our new assistant direcor of facilities. Thomas will oversee all of our student employees in the natatorium, rec complex, and weight room management. Thomas is originally from New Jersey and did his graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Armando Espinoza joins our staff as the new assistant director of intramurals. Armando grew up in Dallas and did his graduate work at the University of Arkansas. His responsibilities include program management of team, individual/dual sports and meet intramural sports, including intramural points, participant sportsmanship, and development and training of intramural sport officials and supervisors.

We are very excited to have this trio of dynamic young professionals join our staff!

The expansion/renovation project passed by student referendum last November will move forward this year. An architect has been chosen, and planning and design work will begin in September. We will post the latest information on this process in the Rec Complex and on our web site. This $24 million dollar student-funded project will greatly enhance the programs and facilities for our campus community.

The K-State Challenge Course officially became a Rec Services program on August 1 of this summer. New Student Services built and managed the course the last two years. Travis Redeker will be the course director. This challenge course enhances individual performance and team building through experiential learning in a natural environment. It is a collection of low and high elements designed for team building and personal growth through a progression of activities targeting community building, healthy risk taking, personal and group awareness, communication, problem solving, decision making, goal setting, leadership skills, and much more! Contact our office to schedule a course for your group!

And don't miss Rec Fest the evening of Sep 2 from 6-8 p.m. Meet our personal trainers, sample group fitness mini-sessions, give new equipment a try, and visit with sport clubs representatives.

Rec Services is a program for all students and faculty staff at Kansas State. We are your recreation center and hope you will make time in your days for visits to the Chester Peters Rec Complex.

Have a great year!
