sport clubs

Welcome to the fall of 2008! Now that school is back in session, our sport clubs are getting things cranked up again. Practices, games, and meetings will be in full force during the month of September. If you are new to K-State (or a K-State veteran) and are wondering how to get involved on campus and make some friends while playing a sport you love, our sport clubs may be just right for you! Our 25 clubs are looking for talented new students to join their rosters and help them win big this year. Don't hesitate in contacting the club you omight be interested in joining. They want to hear from you!

Being involved in a sport club is one of the most rewarding and fun experiences our members have while attending K-State. Lifelong friendships, fun road trips, and memorable wins are all a part of being on a club team.

Look below for a list of Frequently Asked Questions that may answer some of your questions about K-State sport clubs. Feel free to contact Travis Redeker, Assistant Director of Rec Services, at 785-532-0455 or tredeker@ksu.edu for any additional questions you may have.

K-State Sport Club Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get involved in a sport club?
Go to our website at http://recservices.k-state.edu/sportclubs/ and click on the club you are interested in. There you will find information on each club and a club contact person who can fill you in on how to get involved, when their next meeting is, or when tryouts are going to be. Most of our clubs are always looking for new membership.

Baseball Lacrosse Men's Rugby Table Tennis Men's Volleyball
Crew Paintball Wm's Rugby Tennis Wm's Volleyball

What are the benefits of joining a sport club?
Joining a sport club has many rewards, including: getting the chance to compete or participate in a sport activity, getting involved and making friends with similar interests, gaining opportunities for leadership and increasing your level of physical fitness.

Do I need experience in order to participate?
Not necessarily. Many of the clubs are accepting of any skill level and are willing to teach you how to play their sport, however, some are more advanced and prior experience is highly recommended. Each club contact can tell you the recommended level of prior experience for their specific sport.

What is the difference between sports clubs and intramurals?
Sport clubs are led and organized by students. Team practices, meetings, competitions and fundraisers are led by club officers and club members. Sport clubs practice multiple times per week and many travel to compete against other schools. Intramurals consist of KSU students, faculty and staff that compete against each other in organized leagues and tournaments within the KSU community on a more recreational level.

What is the difference between a sport club and a varsity athletic program?
Sport clubs are organized and managed by students. They are funded by the Student Government Association, club fundraisers and membership dues. Clubs compete against other university club teams across the Midwest. Varsity athletic sports are housed in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, funded by Athletics, and compete in NCAA competition.

How do I start a new sport club?
The list of sport clubs we have is not limited to the clubs on the list only. Students can start a new club if they have an interest in a different sport. In order for the club to qualify as a sport club with Rec Services, the club must be part of a National Governing Body and compete against other collegiate club teams. Rec Services can help you in identifying governing bodies and collegiate competition.

In order to start the process for registering a club on campus, you must first go through the Office of Student Activities and Services. You can stop by their office in the Union, call them at 785-532-6541, or visit their club registration website at
http://www.k-state.edu/osas/orgregistration.htm
for more information on how to register a club on campus.
