Rec report

Rec review

Hello my name is Thomas Deus, assistant director, facilities.

The Rec has been partnering with PRSSA this fall to collect jeans. The jeans that are donated are turned into housing insulation, then turned over to Habitat for Humanity who uses the insulation to rebuild homes in disaster areas. As of today, we have collected 895 pairs of jeans at the Rec. If you are interested in donating, please bring your donations to the Rec prior to November 6th. All donors are given a 25% off card for new jeans.

Please remember to bring your ID with you when you are checking out equipment. Towels are the only equipment service we provide that does not require an ID to be used. Please help us keep this policy going by returning your towel to the front desk after you use it.

The hours of operation are:
Monday – Thursday / 5:30am – Midnight
Friday / 5:30am – 11pm
Saturday / 9am – 10pm
Sunday / 12pm – Midnight

There are two home football games in the month of November: Kansas on Nov 7 and Missouri on Nov 14. Expect adjusted hours or even complete closures on those two Saturdays. Be sure to check the web page or call Rec Check to make sure we are open before you head over here on game days.

We hope you are enjoying the semester as much as we are; and, as always, we encourage suggestions and comments that you may have in regards to enhancing your experience at the Rec! Thank you for your participation in our programs. We hope for your continued support.

New equipment review

The following two new pieces of Cybex equipment were added to our selection of workout machines recently.

Leg Press

Unique Articulating Carriage - The carriage moves backward and tilts at the same time which encourages the user to push higher on the back. This is a unique Cybex patented design with an articulating seat and back pad that provide for more complete hip extension and gluteal involvement.

Moving Carriage - The moving carriage is a Cybex Eagle feature that allows for plyometric movements (a type of explosive movement used to develop muscular power). The body moves backward using a stationary footplate for the legs to push against.

Adjustable Seat Back Angle - A seat back angle with five positions is provided for comfort while emphasizing hip range of motion. An added benefit is that it accommodates users who have difficulty in folding legs back against the belly.

Start Adjustment - Adjustable footplate accommodates a wide range of users by adjusting for user height and range of motion. It also has controlled floating action for ease of adjustment.

Footplate - Large footplate surface allows for a variety of foot placement positions. Along with the moving carriage, this allows for the performance of plyometric movements.

Pulldown

Dual Axis - Dual Axis Technology® is a unique strength training mechanism that provides variety and versatility for the most complete workout. Standard selectorized equipment trains muscles from a single direction that is prescribed only by the machine. Using our Dual Axis patented technology, CYBEX Eagle selectorized offers the option to train in either the machine-prescribed pattern of motion ... or to move in a different pattern ... on a different axis which can be defined by the user.

Independent Movement - By allowing the arms to move independently of each other, Eagle delivers the ability to balance the workout when one arm is weaker or injured which encourages symmetrical strength development. Independent motion also allows for bilateral reciprocal training.

Converging or User-Defined Path of Motion - The converging path of motion of Eagle Lat Pull mimics the natural way the human arms move. It provides a more complete range of motion with constant torque at the shoulder. Adding CYBEX dual axis technology® gives an added dimension by augmenting the converging motion with the option for a user-defined second axis motion.

Start Adjustment - Adjustable seat height, a dual position foot bar, and adjustable thigh pads are design features that accommodate a variety of user heights.

Grips - Dual grips provide a barbell grip as well as a neutral grip favorable for individuals with compromised shoulders.

Facility Rental

Both indoor and outdoor facilities at the Rec Complex are available for rental by K-State student organizations and departments, as well as for non-university organizations. K-State registered student organizations will be allowed to reserve space at no cost for practices, special events, and philanthropies if the events meet certain criteria. For more information and schedule of charges, check our web page at www.recservices.k-state.edu/facilities/rentalbuildplay.htm.

As always, we encourage suggestions and comments that you may have in regards to enhancing your experience at the Rec! Thank you for your participation in our programs and your continued support!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!
