Frequently Asked Questions

General

Do students have the option of billing their student account for intramural fees, rental of equipment, fines, etc?
Sorry, we do not bill student accounts.

What are the Rec Complex parking regulations?
All parking regulations, enforcement, permits, charges, etc. are administered by Parking Services in Edwards Hall (785-532-7275). Permits are required Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Metered parking is also available.

If I park in the upper lot by the football stadium, do I need a parking permit?
Parking permits are required by Parking Services for all parking lots adjacent to the Rec Complex.

What about shuttle bus service to and from main campus?
Parking Services offers free shuttle bus service Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. from the Rec Complex to the Student Union and back. The wait for a bus is usually less than ten minutes. Please remember that the shuttle runs only during fall and spring semesters when classes are in session.

Can I use the playfields to practice?
Recreational Services programs have priority on these fields for intramural events, sport club activities, and rentals. Students can use the fields, when available, to practice their sport. Manhattan community members can use the fields when available during summer operation hours. Please check the "play/no play" signs located around the playfields before using the fields. "No play" indicates the playfields are not available for use due to poor field conditions or inclement weather.

How do I go about renting the sand volleyball courts or the playfields at the Rec Complex?
You need to come to the administrative office to complete forms and make the reservation. Call 785-532-6980 for an appointment.

Membership

Do you keep my credit/debit card number on file?
We do have a record of your number if we access our database through a series of password-protected procedures. Therefore, for your security and efficiency when renewing your membership, we require your card number each time a new transaction is performed.

Can I renew my membership and/or locker by telephone?
You can renew over the phone (785-532-6980) for membership and/or locker renewals with a debit or credit card. Or feel free to stop by the administrative office to renew in person.

Can I renew online?
Sorry, we are not currently set up to process online payments.

Does my membership allow me access to fitness classes?
Yes, most classes are free but there are classes like BOSU and in-door cycling which are fee-based. New group fitness sessions and fee-based classes are added each semester, so be sure to check our website or call the office at 785-532-6980.

How can I become a member if I am not a student or faculty/staff?
All users must have an affiliation with K-State. Alumni and non-graduates must be members of the K-State Alumni Association to be eligible to purchase a membership with Recreational Services.

Rec Complex

What are the Rec Complex peak hours?
Peak hours usually occur Monday through Friday during fall and spring semester from about 3-9 p.m., with the highest usage between 7-8 p.m.

I forgot my student ID or facility use key tag. Can I still get in?
Facility use is a privilege. You must present your valid student ID card or facility use key tag each time you use the facilities. Please do not expect to gain admittance when you do not have your ID card or key tag.

How do I reserve a court? (i.e. handball, racquetball, squash, or wallyball)
Reservations can be made one day in advance in person at the service area or by calling 785-532-6950.

How many guests can I bring in?
Adult members are allowed three guests per day. Dependents with facility use cards are limited to one guest who must also be 14 years of age or older and are not allowed to bring in siblings under the age of 14.

How much does a guest pass cost?
Guest passes for guests age 14 or older can be purchased at the service area for $5 per person per day. Guest passes for children age 5-13 years can be purchased for $3 per person per day. Guests under the age of five are allowed to enter free of charge.

What areas of the Rec Complex are my children allowed to use?
Children under the age of 14 are not allowed anywhere on the second floor except when being carried in a baby/child carrier. Children are also not allowed in the cardio area, weight room, and saunas. And remember -- for safety reasons, all children must be accompanied and directly supervised by their parent or guardian at all times.

Do you have daycare service?
Sorry, we do not offer daycare service.

How do I go about renting a gym, room, or playfield at the Rec Complex?
You would need to come to the administrative office to complete forms and make the reservation. Call 785-532-6980 for an appointment.

Fitness services

What is BOSU?
BOSU is an acronym for “both sides up”. It consists of a solid platform and an inflated rubber dome. BOSU offers an integrative workout consisting of cardiovascular training, strength training, agility, and balance. BOSU balance trainers make exercise more appealing and effective for people of all levels of fitness.

Where do I sign up for personal training?
You can purchase sessions or packages through the administrative office. After completing paperwork, a personal trainer will contact you within 7-10 business days to schedule your first meeting.

Is there anyone who can show me how to use the weight room equipment and machines?
We offer weight room orientations conducted by a personal trainer, and we also have attendants in the weight room area to answer questions.

Intramurals

Can I make roster additions/deletions over the phone? What about extensions?
A roster change form must be completed with a signature in the administrative office. You have 24 hours after your game to add/delete players from your roster.The procedure is the same for filing an extension request for individual sports. A request for extension card must be completed and signed in the administrative office prior to the round deadline.

Can I reschedule our playoff game?
All team managers are encouraged to communicate any possible conflict times with the intramural director prior to the posting of the playoff brackets. This should be done prior to the last week of league games. Once the playoff brackets have been posted, it is unlikely that game times will be rescheduled.

Do I have to pay a guest fee to come watch an intramural event?
We allow entrance for intramural spectators at no cost as long as they are not dressed to participate in physical activity. All spectators will be asked to sign-in on the guest log sheet.

How many teams can I play for during a major team sport?
You can play for one men’s/women’s team and one co-rec team. For example, you cannot play for both a fraternity division team and an independent division team. Remember that once you have played for a team, you are not allowed to drop from that team and play for another team. Can I play in an intramural contest without my K-State student ID?
Each person participating in K-State intramurals must show their valid K-State student ID to the game officials or intramural supervisors prior to participation.

Do we need to supply our own team jerseys?
Recreational Services will supply scrimmage vests for major team sports to teams who do not have their own jerseys. Teams can have their own jerseys. All jerseys supplied by individual teams must meet the requirements listed in the intramural rule book for the sport-specific activity. Recreational Services reserves the right to ban any team jersey that is found to be offensive or that does not meet the rule book requirements for jerseys. Please contact the intramural director with concerns prior to purchasing any jerseys.

Natatorium (Pools)

Where are the pools located?
The pools are in the Natatorium, which is adjacent to the Ahearn Field House. The main entrance is on Denison Avenue, near the intersection of Denison Avenue and College Heights Road.

Why are the pools only open at certain times?
Recreational Services shares the pools with UFM Community Learning Center and Department of Kinesiology's Life Program. Each organization sponsors its own swim times and activities.

Can I rent the pools for a private party?
Arrangements for pool rentals can be made by calling UFM at 785-532-8763.

Are my children allowed to swim?
Children under the age of 14 must be under constant and strict supervision. Parents or guardians must be in the water with their youngsters if the children are not water competent and must have a valid membership with Rec Services.

Can my children bring floaties and/or water accessories to the Natatorium?
Only at the discretion of the lifeguards on duty can such items be permitted, so check with a lifeguard first. And remember -- no one can jump off diving boards with any form of flotation device.

Does Rec Services offer swimming lessons?
Rec Services does not offer swimming lessons. Please contact UFM at 785-539-8763 for information about swimming lessons.

How do I rent a locker at the pools?
All locker rentals at the Natatorium are made through the LIFE program located at Ahearn. For more information, call 785-532-0704.

How many guests can I bring in?

Sport Clubs

How do I join a sport club?
You can contact the president of the specific sport club you would like to join. Click here to see a list of clubs and contact information.

How do I start a new sport club?
There are a few requirements a group must adhere to before applying for registration. For more information, check the OSAS website or contact our assistant director of club sports, Travis Redeker, at 785-532-0455.

Outdoor Rental Center

Who can rent outdoor equipment?
Equipment is available to current K-State students upon presentation of their valid student ID and to facility use members (age 18 or older) upon presentation of their valid key tag.

What if I would like to rent a piece of equipment during the middle of the week when the Outdoor Rental Center is not open?
Special arrangements can be made by contacting the administrative office at 785-532-6980 no less than 48 hours prior to the time you would like to pick up the equipment.

How many people do the canoes hold?
Our canoes are capable of carrying up to three adults. We also offer sit-on-top kayaks for those wanting to paddle individually.

Where can we use this outdoor equipment around Manhattan?
We have literature available in the Outdoor Rental Center. Just let us know what you’d like to do, and we’ll point you in the right direction.
