Facility Rules

The following basic rules are to be followed, having been established in the best interest of users and Recreational Services facilities. Any additional rules posted in the building or directed by staff will be enforced. Use of facilities is a privilege. Individuals not cooperating with established policies will be asked to leave and may have their privileges revoked. Those persons found misusing their ID card or key tag by loaning (considered theft of services), falsifying or altering in any way, or any unauthorized use, are subject to disciplinary action or prosecution as well as a misuse fee.

ID Cards
The Recreation Complex is available to authorized users only. Authorized users are current students, faculty/staff, members of the K-State Alumni Association, and their spouses and dependents.

Facility use is a privilege. Participants must present a valid student ID card or facility use key tag each time admitted.

Please do not expect to gain admittance when you do not have your student ID card or facility use key tag. ID cards and key tags are not transferable. They are for the exclusive use of the identified facility use member and will be confiscated if presented by anyone other than the rightful owner. Those persons found misusing their student ID card or facility use key tag by loaning (considered theft of services), falsifying or altering in any way, or using it in any unauthorized way, are subject to disciplinary action or prosecution as well as a misuse fee.

Alcoholic beverages/tobacco products
Cereal malt and alcoholic beverages, smoking, and tobacco products are prohibited in this facility at all times. Violators are subject to disciplinary action.

Animals
Guide dogs only are allowed inside facilities.

Children (Under 14 years of age)
This policy is for the safety of children and all participants, to eliminate improper use and damage of equipment, and to allow for easier and more consistent supervision. Children are n ot allowed anywhere on the second floor except being carried in a backpack on the track. Strollers are not allowed on the tracks. Parents with children in backpacks, child carriers, or strollers are allowed use of cardio equipment in the video lounge area only but not in the main cardio area in the east end of the building or any cardio equipment on the second floor mall track area. Children are not allowed in exercise sessions. Children in baby carriers of any type, as well as any child under the age of 14, are not allowed in or around any type of weight training equipment (machines or free weights). Children are not allowed in the saunas.

Combatives area
Bare feet are acceptable in this area. Mats shall not be rearranged or removed without permission. Martial arts weapons are prohibited.

Court reservations
Reservations for handball/racquetball, squash, and wallyball courts can be made one day in advance in person at the service area or by calling 785-532-6950.

Daily Use Lockers
Daily use lockers are available to all users at no cost. These are for temporary use only, and the lock must be removed after use each day. A $3 fee will be charged for recovery of contents left in these lockers. Contents not claimed within 30 days will be disposed of.

Dependents
The definition of a dependent is someone who receives their support from the ID holder and is claimed as a dependent on the ID holder's tax return. ONLY dependents under 14 years of age will be admitted to the facilities at no charge and must be accompanied and directly supervised by their cardholding parent. An adult member may sponsor a total of three individuals, whether dependents and/or guests. Note: A parent bringing dependents to use facilities must present a facility use key tag which identifies themself -- not their spouse. Dependents who are 14 years of age or older may be sponsored by their cardholding parent to pay guest fees, remembering that all guests must remain in the company of their sponsoring host while using facilities. If dependents who are 14-23 years of age wish to use facilities without parental supervision, the cardholding parent must purchase memberships for those dependents. Dependent members may not bring in siblings under the age of 14.

Designated use courts
Multipurpose courts (tennis, badminton, soccer, and volleyball) will be set up according to designated use schedule.

Dunking
Dunking and/or hanging from basketball rims is not allowed. Violators will be asked to leave the building and will be placed on report.

Eating/drinking
Eating and drinking are restricted to the mall area on the main floor, video lounge, and intramural gallery. Non-spill plastic squeeze bottles up to 32 ounces which are topped and contain water only are permitted in workout areas. No cans, cups, jugs, coolers, or glass containers are allowed.

Equipment
All checkout equipment is to be returned in the same condition as originally issued. Fees will be assessed if the equipment is damaged, broken or with missing parts, is lost or returned late. Please inspect equipment at time of checkout.

Footwear
All Recreation Complex participants must wear athletic, nonmarking footwear. Black-soled running shoes are allowed only in the weight/fitness area and on the running tracks. Court areas require a court shoe. For better traction, we recommend that users carry in their workout shoes. Open-toed shoes or sandals are not permitted in the weight/fitness area.

Guests
Guest fees will apply to guests of all ages. All guests will sign in. A student or facility use member must be "host" to the guest(s). An adult member may host a total of three individuals, whether dependents and/or guests. Guests are required to remain in the company of their host while using facilities. Dependents with their own facility membership are limited to one guest who must be 14 years of age or older. Guest passes may be purchased at the service area of the Recreation Complex for $5 per person per day or at the pools during Recreational Services swim time for $3 per person per day. Guest pass fees include sales tax.

Locker rooms
All locker rooms are gender specific. Children of the opposite sex five years old and older are not permitted to accompany a parent or guardian into the locker rooms. Restrooms may be used as changing facilities for children over five years of age.

Organized activities
There will be no organized activities in the facilities during Recreational Services' use times except those sponsored by and/or approved by Recreational Services. This includes athletic teams, academic classes, instructional activities, sport clubs, camp, and parties. Special arrangements can be made through the Recreational Services office.

Personal belongings
Individuals are responsible for their personal belongings. Staff will not store or monitor articles for you. Free no-coin-required lockers are provided for your convenience at the Recreation Complex. Belongings may also be stored in daily use lockers with your own lock. Lockers in the locker rooms may be rented monthly or annually. Locker users assume all responsibility for stolen or damaged materials. Lost and found is located at the service area at the Recreation Complex. Telephone: 785-532-6950.

Good sportsmanship is expected. Fighting, as well as loud, abusive or profane language, will not be tolerated.

Unsportsmanlike conduct and ejection policy
If a participant or spectator in a Recreational Services program or facility is ejected from any facility (indoor or outdoor), program, contest, or activity, he or she is immediately ineligible for further access or competition in any Recreational Services program or facility until he or she is cleared by the assistant director or his or her designee responsible for the program in which the unsportsmanlike conduct or ejection occurred. Assistant director decisions may be appealed to the director and director's decisions to the Recreational Services Council whose decision is final. Suspensions do remain in force during the appeal process. Any participant or spectator who commits, incites, or aids others in committing any of the following acts of unsportsmanlike or misconduct shall be subject to disciplinary procedures:

University breaks and holidays will count as part of the suspension.

Participant or spectator may petition for reinstatement to the assistant director responsible after a minimum of one calendar year.
  3. Hitting or striking another participant or spectator: indefinite suspension from Recreational Services programs and/or facilities for a minimum of one semester.
  4. Threatening behavior (verbal or pysical) toward a Recreational Services employee (student or professional): indefinite suspension from Recreational Services programs and/or facilities for a minimum of two months.
